Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) + Aquaponics

As the global and Indian populations continue to grow, the agricultural sector faces increasing pressure to address food and nutrient security. The rising popularity of fisheries as a source of protein and essential nutrients has significantly impacted natural fish habitats such as oceans, rivers, and dams. To address this, controlled environment fish rearing in ponds and tanks offers a viable alternative.

At Struqta Foundation, we have developed a unique solution to enhance fish densities using our Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (Struqta-RAS). Our system is designed for use in earthen ponds, ponds lined with geomembranes, and small fish tanks, providing superior efficiency and lower operational and maintenance costs compared to other RAS systems.

The Struqta-RAS operates using both pumps and gravity, reducing reliance on machinery and lowering power requirements. We have observed high output rates and rapid fish growth with our system. It is particularly well-suited for warm water fish species, including Carps, Pangasius, Striped Bass, Tilapia, Singhi, Pabda, Freshwater Prawns, and Shrimps.

Our RAS technology conserves water, reducing consumption by up to 95% compared to traditional fish farming methods, and decreases space requirements by up to 80%.

Additionally, our Struqta-RAS system integrates seamlessly with soil-less farming and aquaponics, achieving remarkable success. Fish waste serves as a natural nutrient source for plants grown downstream of our treatment systems, resulting in organic, chemical-free produce. Aquaponics with our system can yield three times the produce while using 90% less water compared to conventional soil-based farming.

Key Features of Struqta-RAS

  • Intensive aquaculture with upto 99% water recycling
  • Capability of producing fish in densities of 100 Kg per cubic metre
  • Efficiency of produce of upto 150 Kg per square metre of land area per year
  • Monitoring and control of critical parameters in the RAS Plant:
    • Dissolved Oxygen in biofilter and fish tanks
    • Flow rate from pumps
    • Temperature of water in fish tanks
    • Ammonia, Nitrites and Nitrates
    • Fish tank water levels
  • Complete automation with alarms and mobile alert systems for brisk crisis management
  • Energy saving/optimization according to fish sizes & feed rates
  • Power Failure mitigation measures like dissipation of Oxygen directly in fish tanks in case of complete power failure
  • Our systems allow for complete recovery of nutrients produced in the process like fish waste for manure/fertilizers
  • Reduced or Minimal environmental impact
  • Great Returns for the farmer, maximum produce per unit area

Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) is a method of fish farming where water is continuously recycled through a filtration system, allowing for higher fish densities and efficient use of resources.

The Struqta-RAS system enhances efficiency by using both pumps and gravity, reducing machinery dependency and power requirements. It also conserves water and space, compared to traditional fish farming methods.

The system is suitable for various warm water fish species, including Carps, Pangasius, Striped Bass, Tilapia, Singhi, Pabda, Freshwater Prawns, and Shrimps.
